If you have errors when first opening FL Studio (data can't be saved or created) saving projects, recordings, exporting, dragging sample slices, at FL Studio start-up or any action where data may be saved to your User data folder. Try these steps in the order below until the problem is fixed ...

If you have AVG or Avast installed, please have a look into this article: Cannot create file / Access is denied / Unable to write to / Couldn't create the file / Please check that no other application is currently using it.

  1. Windows / Mac -  Reset the the User data folder to the default location ...\Users\[your computer account]\Documents\Image-Line\. To reset the location open the FILE Settings and under the User data folder section click the [Reset] button in-front of the folder icon.
  2. Windows - Controlled Folder Access is activated. Deactivate it or add FL Studio to the 'Allowed applications' list.
  3. Mac - Copy your User data folder contents to a folder on your desktop. The folder is normally located under  .../Users/[your computer account]/Documents/Image-Line/, then delete the original folder. Restart FL Studio and see if the problem is solved. If so, copy your desktop backup files into place (if necessary).

For more information on what data is saved to the User data folder see the manual here.
