Complication:
FLStudio 20.1.2 (both Windows, macOS) opens the file and gives output:
"Error. An error occurred while reading the FLP file. It may be corrupted, or some plugin caused an error while opening."

files in FLS 12 - case where FLStudio 9 is not installed on the PC.
The files are not packed to a .zip - meaning the samples are not included.
Question is, does FLS 12 contain samples from FLS 9 (drums)? ...
