MIDI is NOT audio. If you hear sound from a MIDI file it is playing a synthesizer build into your sound card or audio interface. This sound is being mixed into the audio-stream OUTSIDE of FL Studio, and so this sound does not render from FL Studio in wav/mp3/ogg files. Rendered audio comes entirely from INSIDE FL Studio.

Solution:

  1. Load a Fruity LSD (software MIDI synthesizer) to a Mixer Track, empty FX slot
  2. Set Fruity LSD "Port" number to something other than the one you have set for your sound card ("5" for example)
  3. Link your MIDI Out generators to Fruity LSD by setting their "Port" numbers to match the number set for the Fruity LSD.
  4. The Fruity LSD will then output external MIDI audio to the Mixer channel in which you have it loaded, so its output will be in your exported wav.

Notes:

1. The Fruity LSD uses the General MIDI software synthesizer that Microsoft includes as part of DirectX 8, so you'll need to have DirectX 8 or better installed.
